“Pirates did not know how to stop communication system at ship,” says Algeria minister

The pirates who kidnapped MV Blida ship did not know how to stop communication system. “At present, the vehicle is in the international waters and it may go to the Somali territorial waters,” said Algerian transport minister Ammar Tou.

“The communication system enabled to continue tracking the ship,” Tou told journalists in Algiers.

He refused to talk about the possibility of giving a ransom to the pirates to release the Algerian sailors. He postponed that until contacting the pirates.

The Pirates seized the occasion of the New Year’s Eve to execute their plan. They seized the ship carrying 17 Algerian sailors as surveillance measures are less stringent in such circumstances.

The minister said ships will be equipped with surveillance cameras to know what happens inside them. “That will be done only with experts parts.”

He refused to talk about the involvement of foreign parts in the seizure of the ship. On the other hand, officials say foreign parts may be involved in order to push Algeria to change its position and give ransom.
